Words kill your soul

In the book Names Will Never Hurt Me it has been one year to the day since the tragic school shooting death of Jason Stikes , but that was not the connection i would like to make. In the book a young boy nicknamed freak wrote a poem and in it one line stuck out most in my mind because i can relate to it so much it said "sticks and stones break your bones but words can kill your soul." I walk through the halls and the lunch room and here so many names being called at me and so many others such as skinny jenny, loser, freak, but its not just names its other things little jokes and rumors started unintentionally by random people cause emotions to run high for me especialy. i was recently diagnosed with and anxiety disorder, this due to all the stress that has been put on me over the years i know many of the people that call me names and such do not mean to cause me pain but so many do. This is exactly the type of thing Mrs. Huff talked about the first day of school about how words can leave emotional scares worse than a fist and she was right the emotional scares left on me have caused more heartache and harm than all the punches and kicks i have recieved in my life.

Face to Face with the plague

Today's group discussion was not all it was supposed to be but it went well. Our groups book is Fever 1793, set in Philadelphia it is the story of a young girl named Mattie Cook and the trials her family goes through durring the plague of yellow fever. We ,Tonya and I, disscused the possible causes for yellow fever that are mentioned in the book such as the rotting coffe beans on the dock and the misqutoe infestation, wich is the more likly cause. We also talked about the possible outcomes of Mattie's coffe house days. we are both eager to read the next section of the book to see what unfolds.
